Federal

Animal Welfare Information Center
Mandated by the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) to provide information for improved animal care and use in research, testing, teaching, and exhibition. Includes information on federal standards, links to federal agencies concerned with animal welfare.
U.S. Department of Agriculture
Links to the Data and Statistics page. Information on national meat, dairy, aquaculture production, projections (pdf), food safety and inspection, and agricultural animal research.
U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services
Maintains list of endangered species. Resources and primary source materials on conservation practice and rhetoric, including images, video, and audio found in the USFWS National Digital Library.

State and Local

Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services
Links to the Animal Health and Welfare division of the department's Regulatory Services, as well as Office of the State Veterinarian. Includes state policies, such as the Dangerous Dog Registry, and statistics on animal care and health.
Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries
Mission includes maintaining "optimum populations of all species to serve the needs of the Commonwealth" as well as "to work diligently to safeguard the rights of the people to hunt, fish and harvest game as provided for in the Constitution of Virginia." Information on hunting and fishing regulations, animals classified as wildlife vs. game, and educational material including Virginia Naturally, an online resource for state environmental education.
James City County Animal Control
Local law enforcement division enforces county and state laws regarding animal welfare, neglect and cruelty, and dangerous animals. Located at Heritage Humane Society in Williamsburg, Va.
