HIST 301: The Historians Craft (Sheriff, Spring 2024)

Questions to Consider

  • Who made the website and why?
  • Why was it made?
  • Is it trustworthy?
  • Is there a chance the material has been changed to support a political, social, or cultural aim?

Important note

  • the domain .gov / .org / .edu do not automatically mean it's a trustworthy source!

Double Checking Primary Sources

If you find an interesting primary source online, search for it in our catalog to see if you can find the original, or at least a scan of the original in our databases. That way you can confirm the authenticity of the material.  This isn't always possible, but is worth a shot!
