Metadata

Metadata is information about information. Metadata connects all information on the internet, and it is what helps people find things that you have created. Metadata for a digital photo might include the photographer's name, the time and place the photo was taken, the file size and type, a copyright statement, and a permalink to where the photo can be found.

For an exhibit it is a good idea to fill in the following metadata fields for any obejcts or media that is uploaded.

  • title
  • subject
  • description
  • creator
  • source
  • publisher
  • date (MM-DD-YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD)
  • contirbutor (a person or corporate body associated with the item that has not been mentioned in other fields)
  • rights
  • relation (where you can mention other items related to the one you are cataloging)
  • format
  • language
  • type
  • indentifier

This are all Dublin Core Metadata fields that are often found as presets in most exhibit building tools, but you can always add the field if it is not provided.
