Suppose my topic is the role and impact of sound, noise, gunfire/shelling upon the experience of WW1 solders.

      1. I will not use shelling or gunfire because it will bring up false hits
2. Consider synonyms.
   1. World War I ; world war one; first world war; great war
   2. Noise ; sound ; loud
      1. What other terms might be used by authors, especially those unfamiliar with this concept? 
         1. booming ; roaring
3. Use Boolean searching to create a basic search command

4. For our purposes, let's try:
   1. ("first world war" OR "world war I" OR "great war") AND (sound* OR noise)
      1. We will make this a cleaner search later on. For now this will be our starting point.
