HIST 301: The Historians Craft (Dressler, Fall 2023)

Let's spend time using the Primary Source Databases

Based on our earlier discussion of databases, decide which database is the best starting point.

Having done so, try searching for 2 keywords relating to your topic.

If you get no results, try synonyms. Examples:
 "food" instead of "foodways"
"atlantic trade" instead of "columbian exchange"
"massacre" instead of "genocide"
"transportation" instead of "convicts"
prostitute instead of "sex worker"

Filters

Use filters in the databases to limit to language, time period, and topical content of your choosing.

Since keywords so rarely work extremely well in primary source databases, filters are extremely important in finding useful materials.
