Proxy Errors from Zotero Extension

Fixing "Proxy Error"

W&M Libraries switched its method of access to online resources at the end of May 2024. Previously online access required going through a proxy server but now we log in using something called Open Athens. If you had previously set your Zotero extension to add the link to the proxy server to allow access to W&M licensed resources, you may now be getting a message that says: Proxy Error. Encountered an error parsing 'proxy.wm.edu/login.' The URL may be malformed. Try searching Swem's databases, datasets, and subscriptions.

To correct this error, you will need to clear the proxy server URL from the settings in Zotero's browser extension.

In Chrome:

To the right of the browser's addres bar find the puzzle piece icon for Extensions Extensions icon

Click on it and choose the three dots beside the Zotero Connector and then choose Options

Zotero Connector and Options

Remove anything under Configured Proxies by highlighting it and clicking the minus button below the box.

You should then see an empty box and can close the Connector settings. You may need to clear your broswer's cache and cookies to remove any previous failed attempts to connect but this should correct the proxy error.
