GEOL 100: Earth, Science and Society

Giving you background on a topic

Jumping straight into scholarly literature when you don't know a lot about a topic can be overwhelming.  Spending a little time beforehand learning about the situation and issues involved can save you time and lead you to scholarly sources.

Google smarter

  • Search Google with site:.org OR site:.gov. for groups working on your issue or who is responsible for implementing policies for it

  • You can also search large NGO sites more easily  this way: site:fao.org

  • Once you have some background, search Google Scholar for a good review article
