Chat Box Tests

LibChat

Below is an example of a tabbed chat box for the three Swem departments, similar to what we currently have on the website.

  • Each department will only see chats that come through their specific chat widget (each tab on this demo is a unique widget created in the LibChat Setup). We can setup fallback departments to monitor the chat too. For example, SCRC could set Research as a fallback so if there's no one online to answer SCRC chats, but a Research person is available, Research will get the chat.
  • Members of a chat department are setup manually - you can edit members here (LibAnswers > Admin (gear icon) > LibChat Set-up and then the Departments tab). 
  • To login to the admin side of chat, go to the dashboard in LibAnswers and click the link for "Sign in" next to the person icon near the top middle of the screen. After you sign in, you will need to refresh this page to update the chat boxes below so that they switch to available mode.

Department admins can customize the offline message below. I currently have a link setup to go to LibAnswers so everyone can test that functionality out - it works like a ticket system so patrons can submit questions when we're offline, and then we can answer them as we're available.
