Licensing Your Work

Licensing your work

Assigning a Creative Commons License to your work changes what others can do with it. Instead of "All Rights Reserved" that accompany a traditional Copyrighted work, Creative Commons Licenses make it "Some Rights Reserved." This allows you to decide how others can use that work. This step is completely optional. There are six licenses with varying degrees of openness. Your choice of licenses determines:

  • Attribution (giving credit in a way you establish)

  • Sharing (those who user your content must use the same type of license you do)

  • Type of use (commercial vs non-commercial)

  • Derivatives (if someone can make a derivative work from yours or not)
