Anthropology 150 - Japanese Society, Period Films Guide

A list of resources for. Dr. Hamada's ANTH 150 - Japanese Society

Hello! This guide is here to help guide you towards resources that demonstrate aspects of traditional Japanese performing arts (mostly music and theatre). There is a page for documentaries on and recordings of music and the three theatrical traditions of Japan (Noh, Kabuki, and Bunraku), followed by suggestions for numerous period films made in Japan. These films are subdivided by the historical period they are set in and are all available either in Swem Library's DVD collection or via the Kanopy streaming service offered via William & Mary Libraries. There are many other Japanese films available from both Swem and Kanopy, but these are great places to start and represent some of the classics of Japanese cinema.
