HIST 150: The Family in Premodern Europe (Spring 2024)

An Annotated Bibliography provides a summary of a work, address:

• the topic
• the argument (not the same as a topic
• the sources and or methods
• how it differs from other works on the topic
• was it convincing in supporting the argument?
  • what did it do well? what did it do poorly?

My own note-taking template (meant for personal notes, not great for public works -- it can get repetitive and boring for a reader!]
In [title](year), [author] examines [Topic], arguing [thesis]. Using [sources], [author] differs from other scholars by [historiographical comment]. The Strengths of this approach are [strengths]. The limitations of this approach are [weakness]. Ultimately the work is [convincing/unconvincing] because [reason]. It [will/will not] be useful to my project because [reason].
