HIST 172: History of the Middle East since 1400 (Fall 2022)

Finding Articles

Several databases at W&M can be used to find scholarly articles on the history of the Middle East. These include:

Databases without metadata

Databases are more than just a collection of articles. They also contain metadata that allows us to narrow searches.

Conversely, JSTOR and Google Scholar, though useful, lack this same level of metadata, forcing you to keyword search through tens of thousands of results. You can use Google Scholar, but perhaps not as a first step.

NOTE: JSTOR is just a collection of journal articles. Nearly all the articles in JSTOR can be accessed through out other databases, so it is typically not a good place to search.
