KINE100: Public Health & Obesity

Getting Started

Citing

  • You can find out most everything you need to know about APA format on the OWL @ Purdue APA Guide or this APA electronic handbook  (starting on p. 106).
    • Double check any citations that are automatically made for you! They often have small (or sometimes very large) mistakes.
  • Zotero is a software that lets you manage your articles and generates citations as you write.
    • You can download the application here
    • You can download the Word Processor Plug-in (which lets you insert citations as you write and will automatically generate a bibliography when you're done) here.
  • Refworks is also a program that is available to you as a William & Mary student. It is very similar to Zotero, though more fully integrated into most library databases.

A note on auto-generated references

You may be familiar with reference-creation tools like EasyBib or Citation Machine, and most databases will automatically create references for you as well. Be very careful because the auto-generated references are rarely 100% correct, especially in terms of capitalization, punctuation, and formatting like italics and double-spacing. Always check the reference against the OWL @ Purdue site or APA handbooks.
