Special Collections Research Center Access Tools

There are a variety of tools available to guide you in finding materials in the Special Collections Research Center (SCRC). The most important tool to locate Archives and Manuscripts materials is the SCRC database.

---Use the data base search box in the upper right corner (try both with and without checking the box list) to look up keywords and/or names. When looking up keywords or geographic terms keep in mind that the use and spelling of descriptive terms can change over time and some of our finding-aids were compiled many decades ago. Some item descriptions may also quote directly from the sources which may be centuries old.

---Try using the subject index to look up headings that have been assigned to collections. This is particularly useful for topics that contain commonly occurring terms like 'war' for which a keyword search would produce a large number of non-applicable hits.
