This workshop will present an overview of two image databases available to William and Mary users: ARTstor and WMDID. The presentation will also offer an introduction to managing your personal image collections.

ArtStor and WMDID Comparison

Content:

More than 1 million images covering arts,
architecture, humanities, and sciences

Approximately 40,000 images curated and scanned from the Art and Art History Department.
Coverage: Collections guides by subjects from African
American Studies to Maps to Music history are available online.
Collections represent art, art history, Asia, Iberia and the Americas and the Spaeth Classical collection.
Accounts: W&M users must sign up for an ARTstor account to download images and access shared folders.
How to Register for an Account
Users are automatically registered with their W&M account.
Privileges:

You may request instructor privileges to export into powerpoint, share public and password protected folders and upload your own videos, audio and images.

Faculty and students are automatically given diffferent privileges.
Grouping: Images can be grouped and saved to ARTstor folders.
Creating and managing image groups
Students and faculty can group images into slideshows for online presentation.
Sharing:

Users with Instructor privileges can share access
publicly to all W&M users or with a password to
selected users. Image groups saved to "My Work Folder"
cannot be shared.

Creating and sharing folders

Faculty can "unarchive" their slideshows to make them available publicly or with password protection to a select group.
Downloading: Images can be downloaded by any W&M user who
registers for an ARTstor account. ARTstor will download
the high resolution image and an html file with info
about the image.
How to download images
Only faculty can download  full resolutions individual or groups of images. Students can download low resolution versions of their slideshows.
Presentation (powerpoint): Instructor level users can export groups of images
directly into powerpoint.
How to export to powerpoint
Only faculty can download images. Downloaded images can be used in powerpoint. Image groups can be downloaded and viewed in the offline viewer as well. Students can download lower resolution versions.
Uploading Personal Images:

Instructor-level users can upload images and audio files to their ARTstor account to share alongside ARTstor collections. Users have 1000 MB of space for uploading personal content. Supported file types: JPG/JPEG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, PNG, or any MP3 audio file.

Faculty can upload personal images with an individual file size 16MB or less can be uploaded to WMDID.
