A group of papers related to Edward Stone and his son-in-law, Franklin Moore. Stone was the founder of Stone Printing Company in Roanoke, that started in the late 1890s, and Moore took over as President when Stone passed away. Collection of letters and other items from staff at Virginia Military Institute, where Moore went to school.

Letter, 6 Sept[ember] 1860, written by Francis H. Smith, to Ja[me]s T. Ames, concerning Armory, "model musket," and swords; and letter, 7 March 1888, concerning his resignation as superintendent of Virginia Military Institute in 1886 which was withdrawn and an investigation into his period of service by the Virginia General Assembly.

Cooper at Virginia Military Institute and the University of Virginia; Frank Palmer Christian at Woodberry Forest School; and papers of the Richmond Female Humane Association (Leigh St. Orphan Asylum) and the Young Women's Christian Association of Richmond.

Copy of an April 7, 1927 letter from John G. James to Samuel Y. Ferguson about Andrew Jackson and the VMI (Virginia Military Institute) Cadets in the Civil War and about Charles A. James, a student at the University of Virginia, who served with Robert E. Lee.

Letters, 1868-1916, received by Levin Joynes of Richmond, Va. from relatives and friends. Includes letters written from Virginia Military Institute as well as letters concerning Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Acc. 2010.492 includes pencil drawings by Levin Joynes.

Program for a "Cadets' Anniversary Ball...to be given by the Corps of Cadets of the Virginia Military Institute, on the Evening of the 5th of July, 1858. Lists the President, L. Wilber Reid, and 36 names of the managers. Handwritten note at the bottom, "Compliments of Cadets J. R. Be[g]an, R. T. Washington." Includes two admission tickets, one for supper and one to the Ball Room, plus a card entitled "Engagements" with line 2 (of 20 lines) "with dear Ludie-Bob." Possibly a dance card.

Letters, 1936 and 1962, written to William Eagles. The first batch of letters was written to Eagles by family members and friends while he was a student at Fork Union Military Academy in Fluvanna County, Virginia. The letters written in 1962 primarily deal with Eagles' work with Kiwanis International and include a letter from Davis Paschall, President of the College of William and Mary. There is also an undated photograph, presumably of William Eagles.

Papers, 1840-1906, of Peter W. Ferrell of Danville, Va. Includes correspondence, 1860-1873, concerning family news, debts, and the shipping of staves. Correspondents include his brother James O. Ferrell, a teacher at the Kentucky Military Institute, Farmdale, Ky.; his brother-in-law John M. Sutherlin of New Orleans, La.; and various companies in Halifax County, Va.

Correspondence, diaries, and papers of Thompson Hoadley Landon (1830-1917) and his son Thomas Durland Landon (1865-1934). Several of the papers and correspondence relate to the Bordentown Military Institute of Bordentown, New Jersey of which both Thompson and Thomas were part of the senior administration for several years. Thompson Landon became the principal of the newly established Bordentown Military Institute in Bordentown, NJ. Thompson's son, Thomas Durland Landon, served as the commandant of the Bordentown Military Institute.
