AND OR NOT (Boolean)

BE SURE TO USE CAPS FOR AND OR NOT

AND - searches for books and articles containing both terms. Example: mind AND morality

OR - searches for one of the words. Example: mind OR morality

NOT - exclude a term. Example:   mind NOT morality

Parenthetical notes () - excellent for OR or NOT searches. Like a math equation, the database will do this part first.
Example: (mind OR morality) AND meaning. 

Quotation Marks ""- Links words together in the search. Works best for phrases or proper names.
Example: "personal identity"

Asterisk * - Allows you to search several word endings at once, without using OR.
Example: Locke* will cover Locke, Locke's, Lockean. Caution: it will also return results for lockers, locked, and lockets
Warning: You may get unexpected results: Wom* also gives you wombat.  philo* will give you philosophy, philosophers, philodendra, philology.  
Moral* will give morals and moralities, but also moralizers, moralizing, and about 20 other words.
