HIST 100 Stuff: Objects and Their (Hi)Stories (Spring 2023)

Activity!

Break into four teams.

Each teams is assigned an object that has causes horrors and suffering across the globe.

Each team must find each of the following about their topic

  • Encyclopedia Entry
  • Book
  • Book Review
  • Peer Reviewed article
  • Magazine
  • Newspaper
  • Media
  • Misc primary source

THE CATCH: I don't want any ole' articles, books, etc that are just about your item. I want materials that are exactly about your topic.
AND I want them to be specifically related to the social aspects with the context of the United States.

For most of these have already done these searches myself & have picked out, in my boundless wisdom, the best source for each section.

First prize is honestly and truly an awesome prize.
There are prizes for 2nd and 3rd.
The 4th place team will be the group I call on first the rest of the night.   I am joking?  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How do we know which source is Best?

Consider:

  • Is your object discussed in the abstract?
  • Is it a subject heading?
  • Are America or United States subjects?
  • Are culture or social aspects in the abstract or subject headings?

For each search, there will be a lot of results, but only one or two results exactly about the social aspects of your assigned item in US culture & History
