Finding Books

Searching from the Libraries homepage for Books & Media (aka our catalog) will get you started with finding books for your research.

Some search tips:

  • Try being as broad as possible with your initial search. Instead of "Harry Potter + community," start off just looking for "Harry Potter." Then you can sort through the subject headings and table of contents included in the book descriptions to see if anything looks useful.
    • Too many results? That's a sign that you can try being a bit more specific.
  • W&M Libraries contains a large percentage of ebooks, but don't let that stop you from looking for physical books, too! Browsing the library stacks in the section related to your topic can be a wonderful way to discover books on your topic that didn't come up in a catalog search.
